Clifden: Centrally located with a Variety of Restaurants, Pubs and Shops, Traditional Music and Craic, Sailing, Trout, Salmon and Sea Fishing, Hill Walking.

Highlights are The Connemara Pony Show and the Clifden Arts Festival, there is also a great St Patricks Day Parade, and the Connemara Pony Sales are a great day out.

Clifden is the capital of Connemara and nestles between the twelve bens mountain range and the Atlantic Ocean at the top of Clifden Bay. It is 56 miles from Galway on the N59 road. It has a number of supermarkets and two petrol stations. There are chemists, a dentist, Post Office,Banks, Doctors surgeries and a police station. There are numerous hotels, restaurants pubs and shops.

Whatever your taste in holiday, be it walking, sailing, diving, cycling, bird watching, fishing in sea, lake and river, or simply relaxing in front of a cosy open fire, Clifden is an ideal spot to base a holiday. Families will enjoy visiting the many sandy beaches in the area and swimming in the crystal clear sea. Couples, young or old can take a one or two bedroom house near the town and enjoy the beautiful walks in the area and relax afterwards with a Guinness or two in the many pubs. Although Clifden can be very popular, particularly in the summer months, there is always a relaxed atmosphere and it is a very family orientated town.

Clifden is renowned for its many restaurants to suit every taste and budget. It is easy to pass the time wandering in and out of the shops and having lunch or a coffee in one of the many popular eateries.
There are a number of art galleries and there are more shops and boutiques in the Station House Complex near the centre of the town, there is also a cinema/theatre and a  museum here too.

Enjoy some music and craic nightly in one of Clifden's many fine pubs.There is also a cyber café and any number of jewellery and craft shops for you to browse through. During the summer months, you might like to do some water sports at the Clifden Boat Club they offer sailing, canoeing, boat trips, windsurfing, and sailing lessons. They also have a cosy bar with food. During the summer the Boat Club hold a regatta, the dates of the Boat Club Events are here

If you are a fisherman, there is the Owenglen River and numerous lakes in the area where salmon and sea trout can be caught. All licenses and permits needed can be bought locally. Most of the brown trout fishing in lakes is available free or at a nominal charge. A number of sea angling charter boats work from Clifden harbour providing some of the best and most reliable sea angling in Europe.

The most important event of the Clifden calendar is the Clifden Pony Show which usually takes place on the last Thursday in August (you can check the dates here ) the town fills up with people for three or four days and it is great fun. The Connemara pony sales are well worth a visit, and there are other events linked to the sales, the dates of which can be found here
