Spiddal
is about 18km from Galway City along the shore of Galway bay, it is 10km further west than Barna on the R336 road. Spiddal is on the eastern side of the county’s Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking area) and of the Connemara spiddal village connemararegion. It is an ideal base for a holiday with a beach, harbour and shore fishing. There are a number of shops pubs and restaurants in the area. On the eastern side of the village is An Cheardlann, a craft village.There is also a sailing club in the village. The village is served by Bus Éireann route 424 from Galway City. The Boluisce river flows south from Boluisce Lake and enters Galway Bay at Spiddal.
Spiddal is well paced for touring Connemara, especially the wilder areas of South Connemara, but it is also very convenient for a trip in to Galway City, which is a lively and interesting town.
