Inishbofin is a small island set in the wild splendor of Connemara, amid the magical beauty of sea and mountains. It is far removed from the daily distractions of the mainland. The Island provides the perfect getaway for families looking to rediscover nature. It has around 160 inhabitants and is a popular tourist destination. Located 10km west of Cleggan (30 minutes by ferry), Inishbofin features all the best that Connemara has to offer; a rich history, stunning Atlantic coast scenery, spectacular walks and ‘Green Coast’ award winning beaches with crystal clear water, scuba diving, angling, bird watching, an equestrian centre and boat tours.
The only way to get to Inishbofin is to take the ferry from Cleggan village, this  ferry leaves at least twice a day, details of sailings can be found here. http://inishbofinislanddiscovery.com/

The island is a special area of conservation largely due to it being a breeding area for many species of birds and is one of the rare places in Ireland where the threatened Corncrake can still be heard calling. There are very few cars on the Island, and once the ferry has come and gone a wonderful peace descends on the Island with only the breeze and the birds.
There are some great photos of one of the many walks on Inishbofin on our blog just Click here

The island is also famous for its musical heritage and it continues to be a haven for music lovers. There are two bars Days and Murrays along with other venues there is hardly a week goes by without some great music or arts performance.
