The coming of Autumn marks a change in Connemara. As the season wears on black berries crowd the hedgerows, the trees change to russet and the summer visitors, like the swallows, are all gone. And peace returns. If you have been kept busy all sommer and not had the chance to get away this is your time to enjoy a quiet break. The beaches are all yours, with literally miles of sand all to yourself a great deal of the time. A pint and a bite of lunch can be ordered at your leisure and enjoyed in peace, and people you meet now have time to chat and catch up on the gossip.
It has to be said that the weather may not be perfect all the time, but there is a great sense of satisfaction in braving the elements to take a walk, and if you are in the know you can find sheltered spots like Ballinahinch Castle Grounds, a beautiful walk often followed by afternoon tea in the Castle lounge afterwards.
