Connemara Sea Week celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and it looks like this years event will be the best so far. It takes place in Letterfrack from Sunday, October 19, to Monday, October 28.
Sea Week was conceived to celebrate the cultural and maritime heritage alongside the unique marine environment and history which has always been so important to this part of Ireland.
This years event has something for every one and promises to be an exciting week with great music, talks, walks, food, art and buckets of fun for all the family.
With guided walks, some taking in the history of the area and others focusing on the environment and ecology of Connemara there is something for everyone, add to this a first-class program of music and fun events for kids and you have a week that will keep you busy and well entertained.

Life in the Letterfrack area has always been closely interwoven with the sea. Among the many maritime features of the area at one time there was a busy trade coming and going from the local pier, which still shelters the local fishing fleet, Balinakill Bay was an important source of oysters, they are now farmed very successfully here, and seaweed is harvested on a sustainable basis from the bays where lobster and crab and other fish are caught in the summer months.
Where ever you are in Connemara you are never far from the sea so a week celebrating that is a week celebrating an important part of local history and culture. This is an unmissable opportunity to learn more about the area from highly respected and knowledgeable experts in Ecology, Biodiversity and Archaeology.
