Christmas in Clifden 2024.
December is rapidly becoming a major festival in Clifden, which is the heart of Connemara. Last years festival was a resounding success, the highlight of which was celebrity Ryan Tubridy turning on the Christmas lights.
There was such a positive reaction to the events last year that a festival to welcome Christmas to Clifden is planned with two weekends of family fun 29-30 November and 6-8 December.
This year it all starts happening on November 29th when the lights are switched on accompanied by children performing. Special guests will attend Aoife Mac will be Master of Ceremonies and Santa himself is due to drop in as well! There will be Mulled wine, hot chocolate, music and performances, The shops will stay open late and there will 
be lots of traditional music in the pubs. This starts at 17.00 and you simply must wear a Santa hat!
There will be lots happening through Friday and over the weekend, with carols on the square on Saturday (17.00) workshops for adults and kids and a Christmas market at Christ Church. All you need to do is check out the events timetable HERE There is guaranteed to be plenty to do for everybody.
The following weekend 6/7/8 December is the festival weekend and looks really good, kicking off with a movie in the Station House Theatre, a showing of one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time. “Home Alone” 07 Dec 2024, 16:00 and entry is absolutely free!
Later in the evening there will be events as diverse as a whiskey tasting masterclass in Lowry’s Whiskey Bar and choral concert with Cantairí Chonamara at Christ Church, the following day there will be more with storytelling for kids and face painting too, Christmas wine tasing with Anke Hartman and the Clifden Comhaltas Christmas Concert in the Station House Theatre. There is a chance to make your own Christmas Wreath at ReWear at OhhByGum there will be a Christmas Market at the Town Hall and Santa will be busy at Kings Paper shop. There are also rumours of a Santa Pint Relay, I am not sure what that is but it sounds like it could be great craic.
